base camp
At its core, the Base Camp program is intended to re-engage teens who are struggling with their internal world and are at risk of missing major milestones and losing momentum. We welcome teens who are checked out, angry, and are struggling to cope with all the promises sold to young people that didn't pan out.
These are the teens who are going to light the world on fire and it's our job to help them ignite it.
As caring adults, we provide the space and tools for participating teens to tap into their suffering, unearth the hurt underneath it, and stoke the ember that exists in every one of us that orients us towards healing. Through compassion and community-building, we nurture that soft spot as we build capacity for change. Our work then turns outward as participants engage in real-world, personally meaningful projects. This compassionate mark not only changes the world, but the collective of learners brave enough to look life straight in the face and make a choice.

FULL SEND
In climbing, we use the term "full send" to describe a move that requires 100% commitment with high stakes for failure.
Consider this year your "full send" year. If you're jumping into the Base Camp program, you're agreeing to bring all you got, including your fears, frustrations, doubts and dissenting opinions. You're also agreeing to really go for it.
You're not the only one putting in the work though. We rally too and will meet you where you're at. Plus we'll hold your parents, teachers and other key players to it as well.
After all, you may be the one making the big move but the adults in your life are responsible for carrying the crash pads.
OUR COMMITMENT
the details
The Base Camp youth program runs the duration of the school year, with orientation occurring in the fall. It's primarily geared towards upperclassmen who are at risk of graduation delay or other functional struggle. The first semester emphasizes stability and trust. Services typically include family therapy, skills groups that promote safety, and entry-level experiences intended to promote engagement. Once the second semester starts, focus shifts towards freedom and self-efficacy. We incorporate involved adventures and intensives, such as outdoor rock climbing, individual therapy and member-directed groups. The program culminates with project-based learning, during which members design and carry out a meaningful volunteer experience in preparation for graduation. Members leave with opportunities to engage in alumni-oriented workshops offered during summers.
