Journey Bound is building a trusting and reliable student-centered experience, for high schoolers and master's students alike.

 

We strive to create a learning space where people challenge the status quo of traditional care systems. As a dedicated training program offering specialized therapy programming, we provide hands-on opportunities for students of all walks to engage with therapeutic adventure, play and creative expression. We strive to embolden people towards personally meaningful growth, and we've found what works for high schoolers works for us because underneath it all, learners have a couple fundemental needs.

 

As a practicum student, you may have a lot of excitement and apprehension about embarking on this part of your journey. After all, in a world full of acronyms and evergrowing gold standard treatments, how can we possibly justify people paying for us the same rate as the veteran clinician working in the next room over? Why is it that practicum students' supervision is limited to the same type of supervision their associate colleagues are getting? Don't practicum students need something different?​

Journey Bound's training program is built around the pedagogy imperative to doing therapy well. The framework has been purposely, painstakingly and lovingly created with you, the emerging professional, in mind. Within this constructive cradle is room to experiment, play and grow. In reaching for your own personal horizon, you expand ours. It is because of you that our program transforms into something truly special. My sincerest hope is that your practicum experience becomes the secure base for the work you will do throughout your career. May we teach each other how to be more human and in doing so become better therapists, together.

Not your average practicum.

Practicum students play an integral part in operations at many mental health organizations, including ours. While their front-facing duties may look no different than therapists to clients, a practicum student's role within the organization is fundamentally different. You are a student-practitioner, and your learning trumps profit margins. Unfortunately, many sites succumb to the pressure applied by the mental health industrial complex to buffer their bottom line using practicum students as they would paid employees, a couple extra evaluations along notwithstanding. At Journey Bound, we don't see it that way. This is our responsibility to you:

• Built-in supervision and training schedule, providing a reliable safegaurd for student-practitioners

• Dedication that can be counted on through scaffolded learning protocols

• Specialty-designed infrastructure, where opportunities to apply learning is supported and possible

We view practicum as a true partnership between a practicing organization and educational program. Often times, we're making a multi-year commitment to support your development. In particular, our student-practitioners have a profound hand in shaping our youth program, where they will learn and grow alongside the higher schoolers they're working with. As you advance, you get the unique opportunity of developing specialized programming associated with your professional interest under the mentorship of a seasoned social worker.
